Tony is an experienced consultant with over 20 years background in the electronics and microelectronics industries. He graduated from Imperial College, London in 1979 - having been a sponsored student with GEC Telecommunications - and then moved from telecommunications design into semiconductors, where he spent the next 17 years.
Tony's career in semiconductors has included senior management positions and extended assignments in France, Japan and Singapore. His main interests have been in microprocessors, system-on-chip and embedded software, with an emphasis on design reuse. He has also been closely involved in the business aspects of system-level chip design, including acquisition and use of third party IP.
Tony is a former Microprocessor Business Unit Manager for GEC Plessey Semiconductors (GPS), including full P & L responsibility for all GPS Microprocessor and Microcontroller products, with staff in UK and USA. Whilst at GPS, Tony chaired the corporate team that implemented design for re-use in GPS and introduced the company macrocell library. He also chaired the committee that introduced system-led design techniques into GEC Plessey Semiconductors. Tony was also a member of the GPS Management Council.
Tony is a former member of the Advisory Panel to the European Commission on their Open Microprocessor Initiative (OMI). His other former roles include Business Development Manager for the Graphics Business Unit of SGS Thomson, Programmable Products Marketing Director for SGS Thomson Asia Pacific, based in Singapore and General Manager for Japan and Asia Pacific, INMOS Ltd.
He has extensive international management experience, all within the high technology sector. He has also been involved in the management of change through the introduction of TQM practices into two companies (ST and GPS). He also has substantial design and project management knowledge, with focus on System Level Integration and design for re-use.
Tony has presented numerous papers on the licensing of IP and design for re-use and trade amongst others.
