Steve has over 25 years of experience in semiconductor device research, nanotechnology and millimetre-wave integrated circuit design. He founded and led the Nanoelectronics Research Centre at Glasgow University for 12 years and was Head of Department of Electronics & Electrical Engineering there from 1994 to 1999.
As co-founder and Technical Director of Intellemetrics Ltd, specialising in equipment for the control of thin-film deposition, Steve was responsible for all hardware and embedded software design of the company’s first products, sold throughout Europe, the US and Japan. His commitment to the enterprise agenda has since led to the foundation of Kelvin Nanotechnology Ltd and Compound Semiconductor Technology Ltd, providing services in nanotechnology and optoelectronic device fabrication respectively. He is currently a Director of CST’s successor company, CST Global Ltd.
Since 1999 Steve has been Director of the Institute for System Level Integration, an industry-facing organisation supported by five Universities which is supporting the growth of the system-on-chip design industry in the UK.
Steve is a Director of Electronics Scotland and a member of the Sector Skills Council Advisory Board for Electronics. He was awarded the OBE in the Jubilee Honours List 2002 for services to electronics and nanotechnology. Steve has extensive experience of project monitoring, consultancy and advisory duties for the DTI, DERA(QinetiQ), Scottish Enterprise and the EU.
